Plan the day, not just the walk

Kourtaliotis can be a short visit, but it is still a protected mountain river environment.

The recommended route

The official recommendation is to use the central trail only. The route is approximately 2 km total: from the ticket booth area at about 192 m, descend past the Church of Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicholas) toward the waterfall area at about 112 m, then return the same way.

There is no access for wheeled vehicles inside the gorge; only pedestrians are allowed.

The Kourtaliotis River crosses the gorge and flows toward the Preveli area. Stay on the designated route both for your own safety and to protect the sensitive ecosystems hosted here.
